State of Love

Thousands of years ago, Isaiah looked out from Jerusalem and imagined something extraordinary: a repaired world. And I keep asking myself — if Isaiah were alive today, in a world of AI, blockchain, social networks and communities that cross continents, what tools would he use to build the world he dreamed about?

That question became State of Love.

State of Love is a “state” that lives online. It has no borders and needs no territory. What it has are citizens — people anywhere in the world who choose to belong to a community that believes we can live a little differently.

What if the good we do for one another actually created value?

Help someone? That has value. Share your knowledge? That has value. Connect two people? That has value. Give someone your time, experience or talent when they need it? That has value too. We have built a world that is very good at rewarding what we take, sell and accumulate. I want to explore whether we can build one that also recognises what we give.

Using a model inspired by DAOs and advanced technology, State of Love aims to create a community that collectively owns itself — where people are not an audience or merely “users.” They are the state.

For me this is much more than a technology project. It is an attempt to take two ancient Jewish ideas I deeply connect with — mutual responsibility, and Isaiah’s vision of a repaired world — and ask how we can turn beautiful words into something we can actually practise on a Monday morning.

Isaiah gave us the vision. Judaism gave us mutual responsibility. Technology has given our generation tools no generation before us ever had. Now there is only one question left: what are we going to do with them?
